Topic: 'The 14th Colony of the Revolutionary War'

The topic covered the Florida panhandle settlement to the west, and the eastern settlement at St. Augustine. Though not one of the original 13 colonies, Florida did play a role in the Revolutionary War.

Guest Speaker: Lee Dunn

Topic: John Fletcher Hanson

Ms. Dunn spoke about her book, "Cracking the Solid South", which tells of the life of John Fletcher Hanson, who was the father of Georgia Tech.

Lee Dunn has researched southern history, garden and landscape history, and genealogy for over twenty years. She has been deeply involved in promoting the preservation and awareness of southern gardens and landscapes for seventeen years, through her service as a leader in The Garden Club of Georgia's historic landscape preservation efforts, and was inducted into UGA's Sigma Pi Kappa Honor Society in recognition of her leadership achievement in historic preservation of Georgia's cultural landscapes.

Current civic involvements include serving as chairman of The Garden Club of Georgia's Historic Landscape Preservation committee; on the board of trustees and acquisitions committee of the Cherokee Garden Library at the Atlanta History Center; and as a board member of the Southern Garden History Society.

She was a columnist for the Black Forest News in Colorado Springs, Colorado in her early career. Her weekly column covered city government, school board issues, and other community events. Lee is a graduate of Pierce College and the Historic Landscape Institute at the University of Virginia. She lives in Atlanta with her husband Mike. They have two sons and two grandsons also in the Atlanta area.

Guest Speaker: The Honorable Rusty Paul, Sandy Springs Mayor.

Topic: The 100th Anniversary of World War I

"Mayor Paul was elected mayor in November 2013 and brings more than 35 years of federal, state and local public policy and public administration experience to the job. He was elected to the founding city council for Sandy Springs in November 2005 and served one term. He chaired the city's charter review commission and the Sandy Springs Development Authority."

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Georgia


"Justice P. Harris Hines was appointed to the Supreme Court of Georgia on July 26, 1995, by Governor Zell Miller to succeed Willis B. Hunt, Jr., former Chief Justice. He was elected Presiding Justice on August 15, 2013. Prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court, Justice Hines served as a Superior Court judge in the Cobb Judicial Circuit and a State Court judge for Cobb County."
