Eagle Scout Certificate of Achievement The Mount Vernon Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) supports the Boy Scouts of America through it’s Eagle Scout program as well as having members who are qualified merit badge counselors for American Heritage, Citizenship in the Nation and Genealogy. When a Scout has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, the Chapter will recognize the Scout by presenting the Scout with a Certificate of Achievement. This Certificate can be presented to the Scout at the Court of Honor ceremony by a member of the Mount Vernon Chapter. To request a Certificate of Achievement, contact the Mount Vernon Chapter Eagle Scout Committee Chairman. Please provide, the full name of the Scout, the unit number, the date of the Eagle Court of Honor and the name and contact information for the Scoutmaster or Troop Advancement Coordinator. Contact information for the Chapter Chairman is at the bottom of the page. Chapter Boundaries The Mount Vernon Chapter serves the Dunwoody, North Atlanta and Sandy Springs communities. On the north and west, our boundary is the Chattahoochee River; on the South it is West Paces Ferry Road; to the East it is the DeKalb County line until it reaches the Dunwoody City limits at which point it extends East to follow the Dunwoody City limits. Arthur M. & Berdena King Eagle Scout Award In addition to the Eagle Scout Certificate of Achievement, the SAR invites all Eagle Scouts to participate in the Arthur M. & Berdena King Eagle Scout Award program. Scouts enter this contest at the local SAR Chapter level through the Mount Vernon Chapter though in some cases, the competition may be entered at the society level. If they are recognized as the overall Chapter winner, they advance to the Georgia Society SAR contest level with a top prize of $550. If they are the overall winner at State, they are entered into the National SAR Eagle Scout Award contest with a top prize of $10,000! Eligibility The Mount Vernon Chapter invites all Eagle Scouts who are currently registered in an active unit and have not reached their nineteenth birthday during the year of application, to participate in the Arthur M. & Berdena King Eagle Scout Award. The application year is the calendar year, January 1 to December 31. Scouts may apply more than one year if he meets the age requirements, but no more than $10,000 total may be granted to any one Eagle Scout. The competition is usually entered at the chapter level, though in some cases, the competition may be entered at the society level. |

The Award Process The competition is conducted in three phases: the local chapter, state-level society, and national phases. Contest need complete only one application for the SAR chapter-level competition and the application submitted by the winner of the Chapter competition is automatically entered in the State SAR competition. Scouts may not enter at the National level. All applications for the Arthur M. and Berdena King Eagle Scout Contest submitted to the Mount Vernon Chapter will be reviewed and scored by a committee of 3 – 5 members, appointed by the Chapter President based on the scoring scale established by the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution Eagle Scout Committee. Each member of the committee will evaluate and score each application and the scores will be averaged. The Scout receiving the highest average score will be declared the winner of the competition and the scout receiving the second highest average score, will be the runner-up.
The Eagle Scout Contest Consists of Three Parts A complete set of rules, along with the application can be found on the Eagle Scout Application Form. Contestants need to complete all three parts of the contest to meet qualifications for cash prizes.
