Topic: "The Revolutionary War in Georgia"
Robert C. Jones served as President of the Kennesaw Historical Society for 21 years (1994-2015), and also served as a member of the
executive board of the Kennesaw Museum Foundation for 17 years (1998-2015). The Foundation helped fund the 45,000 square foot
Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History in Kennesaw, GA.
Robert has written 50+ books on various historical topics, including the Civil War, Revolutionary War, World War I & II, the War of 1812 and ghost towns.
In 2018, Robert received an award from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution for "Women in American History".

This Land is Whose Land - Using Land Records to Trace Your Family History
"Land records are an often overlooked resource for family historians, but they can be a veritable gold mine of information.
Deeds, maps, lottery registration lists, and other land records can place an ancestor in a specific place at a specific time.
These records can sometimes tell us an ancestor’s age, birthplace, military service, citizenship, literacy, and other personal information as well."
Sue VerHoef is Director of Oral History and Genealogy at the Atlanta History Center where she has worked since 2008.
She manages the Center's oral history initiatives including the Veterans History Project, a collection of over 800 oral history interviews of veterans from
World War II through the Global War on Terror.

Sue is also the curator of More Than Self: Living the Vietnam War, an exhibition of oral histories, photographs,
documents, and artifacts from Vietnam veterans and civilians who served in their support.
She creates and presents regularly scheduled genealogy workshops and programs and provides archives orientation
tours for public school and university students and faculty. In 2015, The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Southeast Chapter
awarded her an Emmy for her contribution in the development of 37 Weeks: Sherman on the March, which aired on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Sue is a graduate of Brigham Young University and the University of West Georgia.

Terry is an Ohio State University graduate, a Navy veteran, and retired Auditor-in-Charge for the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Office of Inspector General.
He is a Past President of the Button Gwinnett Chapter SAR (2003-2005), the Georgia Society SAR (2009), and Atlanta Chapter SAR (2012-2016).
His current passion is garden railroading.

Guest Speaker: Peter Stoddard
Topic: 'SAR Eligible Lewis Grizzard, Who Owned Two Houses in Sandy Springs'
Peter Stoddard is a Public Speaker, an Author, Producer & PR Specialist and is a former dual member of the Mount Vernon Chapter in 2021.
He grew up in Sandy Springs and after graduation with a Marketing degree from UGA, Peter had two careers. The first was in public relations in Atlanta and Chicago.
The second was in resort real estate sales on the 'Redneck Riviera' which is the stretch of westernmost Florida Panhandle Gulf Coast.
Peter returned to Georgia in 2016, settling in Cumming, GA.
Peter recently moved to Athens and spoke in March at an Athens SAR banquet about the legendary American writer and humorist Lewis Grizzard.
He then became a dual member of the Athens Chapter and is now working on his lineage to his maternal Grandfather for membership in the Society of the Cincinnati.
In 2019 Peter wrote his first book, "Lewis Grizzard: The Dawg That Did Not Hunt". In 2021 he wrote "Lewis Grizzard:
The Dawg Who Loved to Prowl". Like many, Peter deems Lewis Grizzard to be the finest humorist America ever produced.
Peter also authored "Why Puritans Matter, Now More Than Ever" and "The Richest Bostonian".
His talk will be about how he came to write his first Grizzard book.
Peter never met Lewis but was often in the same venues with him at the same time.
"Lewis just had better seats to games and lodging accommodations".
Recently discovered Stoddard family ties will lead to Peter's next book, "The Builder of Savannah", about Peter's Yankee Cousin John Stoddard, a philanthropic man
who in the 1840s built cotton warehouses and sales offices. They still stand as Savannah's River Walk buildings. John funded construction of Savannah's first public schools,
was a founder of Bonaventure Cemetery and an early President of the Georgia Historical Society.

Topic: "The Battle of Monmouth''
The Battle of Monmouth was fought on June 28th, 1778 in New Jersey.
Martin's BIO:
Martin was born and raised outside Philadelphia, PA and spent his early adult life in Atlantic City, NJ. There he worked for 10 years as a Casino Croupier and instructor.
He then enlisted in the US Army as an Infantryman at Fort Benning, GA. at the age of 31, which turned into a 26 year military career.
He was selected for Officer Candidate school, and graduated as an Armored Cavary Officer.
During his military career, Martin was selected to be a Foreign Area Officer, learning Arabic and becoming a regional expert in the Middle East and Africa.
During his military career, he lived in Korea, Germany, Egypt, with several tours of service in the Middle East and Africa.
He finished his career as lead instructor of deploying military and civilians throughout the world.
Martin's life long love of US History was developed while growing up so close to Philadelphia and being surrounded by the roots of our nation.
He first became involved with the Battle of Cowpens as a new Armored Cavary Lieutenant at Ft. Knox.
He was assigned to develop a briefing for this key revolutionary war battlefield and its after effects.
Martin resides in Fayetteville, GA with his wife Crystal.

Guest Speaker: Gene Ray
Topic: Daniel Boone
As famous as Daniel Boone is in American history, much of what is believed about him, and his life is born out of fiction.
Although there is no doubt he made significant contributions to the early settlement of our country, the first biography about him in 1784 to a television portrayal and some later biographies tend to blur the truth about his legend.
And yet, his life and accomplishments continue to inspire biographers as late as 2021.
Biography:
Gene is a honors graduate of Georgia State University and a veteran of the US Navy. He was the recipient of the Ralph McGill Memorial Scholarship and immediately after graduation, worked as a reporter for the Atlanta Constitution. His business career subsequently was centered on advertising, marketing and general business.
Daniel and Rebecca Boone are his 5th great grandparents and he has spent many years collecting and studying information about the Boone family and Kentucky history and has over 70 books on the subject.
He has been a member of the Sons of the American Revolution for 31 years. He’s a co-founder of The Boone Society, a member of the Kentucky Historical Society, the Boonesborough Society, the Filson Historical Society, the Order of Kentucky Colonels and other historical groups.

Guest Speaker: Larry Guzy
Topic: 'The Battle of the Virginia Capes'
"Compatriot Guzy was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, and graduated from Jesuit High School in 1966. He later graduated from Jesuit Marquette University in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics. Compatriot Guzy served three years in the U.S. Navy on the USS Independence aircraft carrier. In 1973, he and his wife, Karin, moved to Marietta, Georgia. He was self-employed in an insurance claims handling business for 40 years, retiring in 2013. In 1995, he joined the Georgia SAR and took his first steps into involvement at the National level in 1999. 'I was drawn to the SAR for the ability to preserve my link to the American Revolution and only later found the joy of friendship and the ability to reach out to others through recruiting and education.' Biography:
Compatriot David Wellons is a third generation native of Tampa, Florida where he graduated from the University of Tampa in business administration.
For eight years, he worked for an international steamship company and spent almost 3 of those years living in West Africa as the company's coastal business director,
where he lived through the Liberian coup of President Tolbert in 1980. Since 1984, David's career has been focused in the healthcare industry, where he was a part of the
leadership of several healthcare software companies. He relocated to Atlanta in 1990 to continue that career, which included ten years at Bellsouth as their
healthcare industry expert. David retired from W-2 employment in 2017 and started Windy Hill Group, a business management consulting firm, which he currently operates.
Compatriot Wellons is a 2016 founding member of our Mount Vernon Chapter. He has served multiple terms as both Chaplain and Recording Secretary.
He is currently the Chapter Vice President and has been nominated to be Chapter President in 2023. He and his wife Jane just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary,
and recently sold their home of 28 years in East Cobb as a planned step in downsizing, and currently reside in Woodstock, Georgia.
