Guest Speaker: Martin Howley
Topic: "The Battle of Cowpens''
The Battle of Cowpens is an amazing study in American resilience, leadership, adaptation, and spirit and was a very important Battle during the Revolutionary War.
This battle was fought January 17th, 1781 and was one of a string of victories, including the Battle of King's Mountain and the Battle of Guilford Courthouse that
turned things around in the south. Cornwallis' army was forced to abandon his plans to conquer North Carolina and head for the Virginia coast to await reinforcements
from New York that never arrived. Then came Yorktown...
Martin's BIO:
Martin was born and raised outside Philadelphia, PA and spent his early adult life in Atlantic City, NJ. There he worked for 10 years as a Casino Croupier and instructor.
He then enlisted in the US Army as an Infantryman at Fort Benning, GA. at the age of 31, which turned into a 26 year military career.
He was selected for Officer Candidate school, and graduated as an Armored Cavary Officer.
During his military career, Martin was selected to be a Foreign Area Officer, learning Arabic and becoming a regional expert in the Middle East and Africa.
During his military career, he lived in Korea, Germany, Egypt, with several tours of service in the Middle East and Africa.
He finished his career as lead instructor of deploying military and civilians throughout the world.
Martin's life long love of US History was developed while growing up so close to Philadelphia and being surrounded by the roots of our nation.
He first became involved with the Battle of Cowpens as a new Armored Cavary Lieutenant at Ft. Knox.
He was assigned to develop a briefing for this key revolutionary war battlefield and its after effects.
Martin resides in Fayetteville, GA with his wife Crystal.

Guest Speaker: President, Georgia Society SAR - William B. Dobbs II
BIO:
"Bill," is a native Georgian and a lifelong resident of Covington.
He holds an AA from Oxford College of Emory University and a BBA from Georgia College and State University.
He also lettered in basketball, soccer, and tennis at GC&SU.
Bill worked in law enforcement for the City of Atlanta from 1980 to 1986.
In 1986, he was asked by Governor Joe Frank Harris to come and work for him.
After 30 years of service to five Georgia Governors, Bill retired from the Department of Economic Development in 2016.
He remains a member of the Georgia Economic Developers Association and is a member of the Covington-Newton County Chamber of Commerce.
He also serves on the Board of the Covington-Newton County Industrial Authority.
Bill joined the SAR in 1996, serving as the George Walton Chapter President for a total of 16 years.
Bill served two years as an at-large member of the BOM, three years as the Central East Regional Vice President, and most recently served as the Senior Vice President.
On January 25th, he was installed as President of the Georgia Society SAR. Bill is a George Washington Fellow (National SAR) and a Georgia Fellow.
Bill lives in Covington with his wife, Deborah, and daughter, Bess, in a historic home built by a relative of Patrick Henry.

Guest Speaker: Compatriot Rick Reese
Topic: The Restoration of the Brockett Home
Rick will talk about the reconstruction of his patriots cabin in Tennessee. His patriot William Ebenezer Brockett's home was completely disassembled and moved to a new rebuilt in a new location.
The finished rebuilt log cabin home is amazing today.
Rick's BIO: Rick Reese was born in Bethesda, MD and grew up in Baltimore, MD. After graduating from the Gilman School in Baltimore, he received a BA degree in Business Administration and an
MBA degree in Marketing from Loyola University in Baltimore. Rick joined the Marine Corps Reserves in 1970 and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1976. He worked for the
United States Gypsum Company (USG Corp) for 31-1/2 years in various positions in building material sales, product management, sales management, national account sales management
and sales training until his retirement in July of 2007. He was responsible for major projects with USG that included business project manager, sales force project manager, and
project manager for the USG Oracle project implementation and training. This was for supply chain and cost projects for about 70 manufacturing plant facilities.
Rick and his wife of 51 years, Linda Dillon Reese, moved to Atlanta from Chicago in 2008. Linda is a member of the Martha Stewart Bulloch chapter of the DAR. Their son, Rick Reese,
is a musician, a member of the Piedmont Chapter, and also the editor of the "Piedmont Piper" the Chapter newsletter. Their daughter, Ashley Reese Carman, is a sales executive with
Salesforce.com and lives in Sandy Springs with her husband.
Rick joined the Piedmont Chapter SAR in 2013, and is a Past Chapter President. Rick is also GASSAR Education Chairman. He has been involved with the Martha Stewart Bulloch DAR Society
C.A.R. since 2012, and a senior leader of that organization for the past 7 years.
