2023 - The Mount Vernon Chapter and
the Children of the American Revolution - C.A.R.

Date: March 15, 2023
Updates from Chapter C.A.R. Liaison Kevin Baker

Past National C.A.R. President and Mount Vernon Chapter C.A.R. liaison Kevin Baker, along with past Georgia C.A.R. President and now National Historian David Jimenez, have teamed up to increase activity between the two organizations in 2023. Visit:  https://nscar.org/

Grave Marking   (No date given)
Kevin and David recently took part in a Tennessee state society Child Grave marketing with Honorary Ga State President Will Tims. The ceremony was held at the gravesite of the Sevier family, a well known family name in Tennessee with a town named after them near Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg.

The headstone (below) marks the resting place of the children, their mother Nancy, and father Major James Sevier, who served in the American Revolution. He fought at the Battle of Kings Mountain on October 7, 1780, which would have made James Sevier 16 years old at the time of the battle. Kings Mountain was a decisive victory for the 'Americans', and it began the retreat of the British from the Southern colonies in 1781. After Kings Mountain, the British were defeated at the Battle of Cowpens, SC in January, the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, NC in March, and at Yorktown in October.

Kevin Baker - Guest Speaker at Roswell King DAR

Our Chapter C.A.R. Liaison Kevin Baker was invited to speak at a meeting of the Roswell King DAR Chapter on Sunday April 16th. DAR Chapter regent Kathy Marsh asked Kevin to speak about local history, haunts and legends, which Kevin does for the Roswell Historical Society.

Kevin Baker has been a member of the Children of the American Revolution since the age of 5, and at one time the Baker's were a 4 generation family of affiliated CAR/SAR/DAR members. He has held various offices on the Local, State and National level in the C.A.R., eventually becoming the first National President from the state of Georgia in the organization’s history. He was also one of the youngest to ever hold the office at just 17 years old, being installed on the historic grounds of George Washington's Mount Vernon. His National Project was to educate students and faculty alike through educational DVDs documentaries detailing the 2nd Virginia Convention, where Patrick Henry gave his infamous “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death" speech.

Kevin has attended over 100 various grave markings and Color Guard parades through his C.A.R. career, including DAR's first official Kettle Creek Grave marking ceremony in the early 90’s. He has wined and dined with President’s and International ambassadors alike, preaching the message of who and what the C.A.R. is about. He is also member of the National Gavel Society and the Marietta National Memorial Society. He is the recipient of the Bronze (by a Chapter), Silver (by the State), and the Gold Citizenship Medal, which was awarded by the President General of the SAR. He currently serves as Honorary National President and is the SAR/CAR liaison for Mount Vernon.
